The Newport News Anchormen wiggled past the Joplin Red Racers, 6-5, at Anchormen Stadium. The win was highlighted by the performance of Newport News pitcher Rick Lewis. Newport News reliever Josh Cheney picked up the win, upping his record to 6-2. Steve Herrera was saddled with the loss. Newport News's record now stands at 27-24, placing them second in the Appalachian Mountain League East.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Newport News second baseman Kazuma Nii, facing Steve Herrera, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Anchormen the 6-5 win.

"This joint was rocking," said Lewis.
