The Clifton Dons banked on Naofumi Yamaguchi and he turned in a masterful performance. The left-hander kept the Leeds hitters in check. The final score was 2-1, Dons, in 12 innings. Clifton pitcher Pete Blaquiere earned the win, hiking his record to 3-1. Tom Watson suffered the loss. The 4th-place Dons improved to 18-19.
The decisive blow was delivered by Lou Hunt in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a run-scoring double off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Oscar Jarrold to win the game for Clifton. The home crowd went nuts.
"Naofumi was in attack mode the whole game," said Clifton manager Ken Hooper.
