The Fayetteville Braggarts welcomed the Newport News Anchormen to an afternoon game at Anchormen Stadium.

The Fayetteville Braggarts faced a tough opponent in Newport News pitcher Gerardo Díaz, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Anchormen Stadium by a final score of 5-4. Díaz went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Fayetteville reliever Bill Adams got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Giustino Fusarpoli was tagged with the loss. Ryosei Shiroi earned the save for Fayetteville, his 5th of the year.

Fayetteville used a timely hit from Mike Clifton to get the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Braggarts ahead, 4-3. It might've been his only hit, but it did the trick.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Clifton.

Newport News falls to 14-12.
