Tony Romero pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Jefferson County Independence, despite Romero's fine outing, dropped a 3-0 decision to the Newport News Anchormen at Ballpark of Jefferson County. Josh Cheney collected save number 4. The loss puts Jefferson County at 10-12.

Newport News took a 2-0 lead on Ferdinand Plugge's 6th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Plugge hit in the top of the seventh, left Jefferson County pitcher Joham Landeiro visibly frustrated.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Plugge. "And not try to do too much."
