Ketchikan Hands Kenai 6-0 Loss

Ketchikan Salmon manager Ricardo Pérez knew it was a gamble to give the start to rookie Jun Kono. It was a good gamble to take.
Pitching in front of a supportive hometown crowd, the 22-year-old right-hander silenced the visiting Kenai Traders at Spectres Ballpark. The Salmon shut out the Traders by a final score of 6-0, to give the Salmon a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Wild Card.
Kono was in the zone all game. He frustrated Kenai hitters while giving the Salmon 8.1 innings of quality work. Kono threw 111 pitches, allowing 5 hits and getting 13 punchouts.
"Jun was pounding the zone," said Ketchikan manager Ricardo Pérez.
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, September 23rd , 2042 at Metros Ballpark in Kenai.
