Nerv Clip Shmoes, 3-2, in R1 Contest
|
The Marduk Nerv faced a challenging opponent in Mexicali Shmoes right-hander Guy Besemer, but did just enough to squeak out a 3-2 win in Game 3 of the Wild Card. Marduk now leads 2-1 in the best-of-5 series. The Nerv won despite the Shmoes getting an excellent start from starter Besemer, who allowed 3 runs and scattered 6 hits over 9 innings.
Matt Gunther came through with a big-time hit for Marduk. The catcher smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Gunther said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shmoes Stadium in Mexicali.
