The home crowd had a good time watching the National City Bankers and Takaoka Shiko get after it.
Getting an impressive start from Roberto Sánchez, Takaoka beat National City by the score of 6-2. Sánchez, the winner, moves to 8-6. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks. Dusty Kennedy picked up the save for Takaoka, his 5th of the year.
Yugoro Tanaka had a big 2-run double for the Shiko in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Takaoka trailing 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Russell Howse, who is tied for 2nd in the BCL in innings pitched with 159.0, and swatted a double to center. It was his 20th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shiko ahead, 3-2.
Sánchez attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
The defeat makes National City 51-66.
