The Mauna Loa Vulcans topped the Waimalu Nene, 6-3, in Hawaiian League action at Waimalu Grounds. The standout performance belonged to Mauna Loa pitcher and Taipei, Taiwan, native Shao-qi Bu. Robbie Lane got credit for the save for Mauna Loa. It was his 23rd of the year. The last-place Nene now sit at 49-50.

Jorge Montalvo, the Mauna Loa designated hitter, contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 5-3, Vulcans. For the game, Montalvo was 3-5 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

"Shao-qi gave us a heck of an effort," said Mauna Loa manager Juan Flores.
