At Recoil Stadium, the Mauna Loa Vulcans and Hilo Hoops were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Hilo got a strong outing from Manny Gómez as the Hoops defeated the Mauna Loa Vulcans, 5-1, at Recoil Stadium. At 51-46, the Hoops are currently third in the Hawaiian League Archipelago.

Brodie Rickard had a big 2-run double for the Hoops in the top of the fifth inning. With Hilo leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a knuckle curve from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Yukichi Wada and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hoops ahead, 4-0.

"We had a good game plan," Gómez said, "and we were able to execute it."
