Battle Slugs Hoops to 8-3 Win
|
The Hilo Hoops defeated the Mauna Loa Vulcans by the score of 8-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Mike Battle. Battle was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Hoops on the day. With the win, Hilo raised its record to 50-46.
Rod O'Neil had a big 3-run home run for the Hoops in the top of the fifth inning. With Hilo leading 4-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from Wanjala Dau and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 17th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hoops ahead, 7-1.
