Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Alex James, the Hilo Hoops lost to the Waimalu Nene, 5-4. James was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Waimalu pitcher Micheal McShane got the win. He's now 3-6. Sumio Kanno was tagged with the loss. With the win, Waimalu has a record of 47-47. Hilo falls to 48-46.
The decisive blow was delivered in the bottom of the ninth when Sinclair Krijger hit a run-scoring double off 19-year old left-handed pitcher Sumio Kanno to win the game for Waimalu. The home crowd went wild.
"The ending was a real humdinger," Krijger told reporters after the game.
