The Hilo Hoops topped the Kailua Hanso, 5-4, in Hawaiian League action at Hilo Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Hilo pitcher and San Anselmo, California, native Ray Bernard. Hilo is now 43-41, Kailua 46-38.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, an error by the Hanso allowed the Hoops to score the winning run.

"Ray pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Hilo manager Ray Gilbert.
