Halberds Beat Fireflies, 4-3, at Halberds Ballpark
|
The Shirakawa Halberds knocked off the Kobayashi Fireflies, 4-3, in Hawaiian League action at Halberds Ballpark. Shirakawa pitcher and Overland Park, Kansas, native Mark Hagood had an outstanding performance. Hagood, now 2-6, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. The last-place Halberds improved to 30-56.
The Fireflies had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Halberds going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old second baseman Darryl Blackwell came to the plate. Blackwell hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 curveball from Kobayashi hurler William Cooper. It was Blackwell's 6th home run of the year.
Hagood told a Shirakawa Bulletin reporter that he was "very pleased" with the win.
