Niigata Gigans starter Strom Shuster hurled his team past the Grand Rapids Rafters, 2-1. Shuster got the win, improving to 10-3. He gave up 7 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. Picking up the save was 20-year old right-handed pitcher Lee Hale.

Abel Randall, who is tied for 6th in the RML with a .516 slugging percentage, helped out the Niigata cause in the top of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the first baseman drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Grand Rapids skipper Alberto Flores, "and it cost us."
