Fighting Scotts Claim 1-0 Triumph
|
Henderson Fighting Scotts starter Gui Sun turned in a top-notch performance against the Niigata Gigans at Ballpark of Henderson. The result was a win for the Fighting Scotts, 1-0. In 7.1 innings, Sun surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Kinnosuke Honma recorded the save, his 4th.
The Gigans had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Fighting Scotts going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old second baseman Yong-gyu Kim came to the plate. Kim hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 fastball from Niigata hurler Pedro Zamora. It was Kim's 7th double of the year.
Afterward, Fighting Scotts manager Félix Maese was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The first-place Fighting Scotts have a one-game lead in their division.
