Sioux Falls pitcher Clifton Welsh had a large part in his team subduing the Iowa City Kingpins, 2-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The win elevated the Lakota to 67-64.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Lakota had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when center fielder Millard Martin hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Wayne Flowers and made the score 2-0, Lakota. Martin went 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI.

In postgame remarks, Martin applauded his team's "business-like approach."
