The West Valley City Grizzlies beat the Racine Lakers, 5-1. West Valley City pitcher and Cocoyoc, Mexico, native Luis Zapata led the way. Zapata picked up the win for West Valley City, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 2-2. Jorge Cantú earned the save, his 2nd.
The Grizzlies got a big at-bat from first baseman Ernesto Machado. For the game, Machado was 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 25th home run of the season gave West Valley City a 2-1 lead.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said West Valley City skipper Mike Kent.
The Grizzlies go to 56-68, putting them last in the Rocky Mountain League West.
