The Niigata Gigans topped the Racine Lakers, 6-3, in Rocky Mountain League action at Gigans Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Niigata pitcher and Rüdersdorf, Germany, native Strom Shuster. In 6.1 innings, Shuster surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 0. He allowed 3 runs. Lee Hale picked up his 11th save of the season.

Mei-shio Wang cracked a home run off Hyo-cheong Cho in the bottom of the third. His 2-run blast put the Gigans on top, 5-3. In all, Wang had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Strom was able to execute his pitches," said Niigata manager Bill Holt. "Simple as that."

Niigata is now 66-50, while Racine is 67-49.
