Rafters Upend Lakota, 7-5
|
Due in large part to designated hitter Vincente Espinosa, the Grand Rapids Rafters sunk the Sioux Falls Lakota, 7-5. Espinosa went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Sang-soo Yun, the winner, is now 9-6. He struck out 5 and walked 4 over 6 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Picking up the save was Jong-pil Song, his 22nd.
Michael MacLay was 2 for 4 with a triple, while scoring 2 times for Grand Rapids. The former first round draft pick had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Hisanobu Takahashi. It was his 29th RBI of the season.
"Every time you put a 'W' on the board is always good," said Espinosa.
The second-place Rafters lifted their record to 63-47.
