Both teams had their chances, but the Hilo Hoops eventually prevailed.

The Hilo Hoops topped the Lana'i City Pineapples, 3-2, in Hawaiian League action at Dole Park. The standout performance belonged to Hilo pitcher and Yokohama, Japan, native Sadao Takahashi. Hilo reliever César Gómez was the winner. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Lorenzo Leyva. José Valdéz closed it out for Hilo, earning his 3rd save.

Christian Sanders delivered a big hit for Hilo. The second baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hoops ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"Really, really impressed with the way Sadao competed and executed pitches," said Hilo manager Ray Gilbert.

The Hoops are now 40-41, while the Pineapples fall to 35-46.
