Halberds Suffer 3-2 Setback
The Hilo Hoops wiggled past the Shirakawa Halberds, 3-2, at Hilo Ballpark. The win was highlighted by the performance of Hilo pitcher Manny Gómez. The third-place Hoops lifted their record to 34-38.

The decisive blow was delivered by Pong-su Kae in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a solo home run off 20-year old left-handed pitcher Kuemon Nishida to win the game for Hilo. The home crowd went nuts.

"We had a hellacious effort," said Hoops manager Ray Gilbert. "We hung in there and hung in there."
