The Waikiki Coconuts rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Alan James to a win, beating the Hilo Hoops, 4-2, at Hilo Ballpark. In 8 innings, James surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Toshikasu Ikeda collected save number 4.
Waikiki relied on the hitting of Eduardo Rodríguez to pick up the win. The designated hitter ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Coconuts on top, 4-2. For the game, Rodríguez had 1 triple and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Waikiki manager Taisuke Endo.
Waikiki goes to 40-27, Hilo to 33-34.
