The Waimalu Nene defeated the Kobayashi Fireflies, 5-4, in Hawaiian League action at Waimalu Grounds. Waimalu pitcher Mitchell Spooner had a standout performance. Kelly Lewis closed it out for his 11th save. Waimalu currently is in second place in the Hawaiian League Aloha at 33-19.

The Nene got a big at-bat from second baseman Julián Gil. For the game, Gil was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Waimalu a 5-3 lead.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Kobayashi manager Mike Robinson. "The effort was great."
