Behind an impressive start by Shao-qi Bu, Mauna Loa beat Hilo, 3-2. The save was credited to Robbie Lane, his 15th. The first-place Vulcans are now 31-22, the Hoops 27-26.

Cliff Braams, who is tied for 9th in the HL in doubles with 9, had a direct impact on the outcome. Braams contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the first inning to put Mauna Loa up, 1-0.

"We hit some balls hard and didn't get rewarded for it," said Hilo manager Ray Gilbert.
