The Hilo Hoops found a way to sneak past the Kilauea Volcanoes, 5-4, in 12 innings. Hilo pitcher Misao Samurakami, for one, had a standout performance. The winner was Fernando Román in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Jorge Pérez took the loss. The Hoops are now 23-22, while the Volcanoes fall to 10-35.

Hilo used the timely hitting of Alex James to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Hoops on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

James attributed the win to "concerted effort and focus."
