Kailua Upended by Mauna Loa, 8-2
|
The exploits of shortstop Kenny Reed, who is tied for 2nd in the HL in triples with 4, helped the Mauna Loa Vulcans defeat the Kailua Hanso, 8-2. Reed was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Mario Valentín got credit for the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 5.2 innings. Mike Martínez picked up his 1st save of the season.
Reed contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Mauna Loa in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Reed took a slider from Dan Elmore and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Vulcans to leap in front, 3-1.
"They took it to us," said Kailua manager Akio Kouno.
Mauna Loa is now 25-19, while Kailua is 24-20.
