With first baseman Ty Raines leading the charge, the Mauna Loa Vulcans defeated the Kailua Hanso, 8-3, at Recoil Stadium. Raines, who is tied for 2nd in the HL with a 1.091 OPS, was 2-3 with a home run, a triple, and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Jesús Torres, the winner, improved to 3-3. He held Kailua to 3 runs on 2 hits over 6 innings, while racking up 10 strikeouts. The Vulcans now have a record of 24-18.
In the bottom of the first inning, catcher Rob Reed had a grand slam home run for Mauna Loa. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Vulcans on top, 6-2.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Reed told the Mauna Loa Daily.
