Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Reins
|
The Calexico Reins knocked off the Salton Sea Kilmers, 5-1, in Baja Cali League action at Kilmers Ballpark. Calexico pitcher and Altoona, Pennsylvania, native Mario Mercalo had an outstanding performance. With the win, Calexico goes to 35-35, while the Kilmers fall to 38-32.
Calexico used the timely hitting of Heinrich Wesselingh to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Reins on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Mario did a good job of shutting their lineup down," said Calexico manager Joe Buchanan.
