Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Takaoka Shiko take on the Rosarito Monjas del Vuelo.
The Takaoka Shiko got a magnificent performance from pitcher Goro Takahashi, who muffled the Rosarito offense en route to a tight, 2-1 Shiko win at The Shrine. In 5 innings, Takahashi surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Shiko had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when first baseman Jorge Hernández hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Ben Corbett and made the score 2-1, Shiko. Hernández went 2-4 with 2 singles.
"We found a way to get it done," Hernández said.
Takaoka is now 38-27.
