Claymores Suffer 6-3 Home Defeat
|
The Florida Farstriders dealt the Scottish Claymores a 6-3 loss at The Castle. Vito van Wondel, who is a two-time All-Leather Award winner, was the star on offense. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Hen-to Tse, the winning pitcher, is now 10-3. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits, while fanning 6 and walking 1. The Farstriders, at 63-20, have a comfortable 18½-game lead in their division.
With Florida trailing 3-0 in the top of the third, van Wondel hit a fastball from Thomas Connolly for a grand slam home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and put the Farstriders ahead, 4-3.
"We're trying to go out there and win games," van Wondel told the Florida Daily, "and we played pretty well tonight."
