The Niigata Gigans called upon starter Pedro Zamora, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Grand Rapids Rafters, 2-1. Niigata reliever Kyung-tae Sim picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Lorenz Bouchard absorbed the loss. Shawn Mosley earned the save, his 14th in 17 tries.
Had David Kuhn not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kuhn hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Gigans.
"We played hard and won," said Zamora. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
With the win, the Gigans have a record of 49-41.
