Claymores Win, 3-1, Versus New Jersey
|
Both offenses were relatively subdued at Mercer County Waterfront Park. Fortunately for the Scottish Claymores, though, Lorenzo Castanieda was able to deliver in the clutch. He was 4 for 4 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2, to lead his team past the New Jersey Hitmen, 3-1. Scottish reliever Shane Martin picked up the win, while Shinkichi Hasegawa took the loss for New Jersey. The Claymores saw their win-loss record go to 49-32. At the same time, the Hitmen fell to 31-52.
Scottish used a clutch hit from Scott Zimmerman to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Claymores ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a doozy.
In postgame remarks, Castanieda hailed his team's "grit."
