Lakers Handle Skyelanders, Nab 7-0 Win
|
Glendale had no answer for Racine Lakers hurler Melchior Lohse, who overwhelmed Skyelanders hitters as the Lakers coasted to victory, 7-0. In 7 innings, Lohse surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 5. He allowed no runs. The Lakers improved to 50-38.
Lodewijk Schillemans had a big 2-run double for the Lakers in the bottom of the second inning. With Racine leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Víctor Peña and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 17th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lakers ahead, 3-0.
Said Glendale manager Michael Johnson: "We ran into a buzz saw."
