The Chandler Waxers claimed a close win over the Shizuoka Anguirus, due in large part to Steve Williams. The Chandler left-hander pitched a great game to secure the 2-1 win. Edwin Nunn collected save number 11.

Making an impact for the home team was Tony Martínez. In the bottom of the fifth, the 28-year old third baseman had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 2-0, Waxers.

Williams called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
