Gigans Stick Grizzlies with 6-3 Loss
The Niigata Gigans defeated the West Valley City Grizzlies, 6-3, in Rocky Mountain League action at Gigans Ballpark. Niigata pitcher Steve Erwin had a standout performance. Erwin yielded 3 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 6-3. Niigata, at 28-29, holds down second place in the Rocky Mountain League Pacific.

Masayuki Ishida had a big solo home run for the Gigans in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Niigata leading 4-3 and the bases empty, he got a curveball from Gilberto Flores, who is tied for 8th in the RML in holds with 4, and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gigans ahead, 5-3.

"Good team win," Ishida said. "I love it when a plan comes together."
