Hoops Defeat Halberds in 10
|
Mike Battle was instrumental in his team's 6-4, extra-inning triumph over the Shirakawa Halberds. The first baseman hit 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Hilo Hoops. Cristián Ortíz snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. With the victory, the Hoops record stands at 14-14.
Battle had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 1-1 fastball from Miguel Otano, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Hoops a 6-4 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Battle.
"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Hoops manager Ray Gilbert.
