Mahi-Mahi Drop Contest, 2-1, to Kilauea
|
The Maui Mahi-Mahi wasted an impressive 5-inning effort from starter Juan Rivero, falling, 2-1, to the Kilauea Volcanoes at Kokua Gardens. Adugna Kwach picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Miguel Paredes suffered the loss. With this game in the books, Kilauea is 5-23, Maui 9-19.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the seventh, with the game tied, Jason Fitzgerald was at the plate when Kilauea scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Volcanoes to go in front, 2-1.
"Some games build character," said Kilauea manager Chris Simpson. "Like this one."
