The Mauna Loa Vulcans and starting pitcher Javier Macías stifled the Kobayashi offense en route to a comfortable 8-2 win at Blacksnakes Ballpark. Mauna Loa, now 11-7, has played well in the early going.

Kenny Reed had a big solo home run for the Vulcans in the top of the second inning. With Mauna Loa leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher William Cooper and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Vulcans on top, 2-0.

"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Macías. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
