The Mauna Loa Vulcans and Hilo Hoops played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.

Mauna Loa right-hander Javier Macías helped his team edge Hilo by the score of 3-2. Macías kept the opposing lineup in check. The win takes Mauna Loa to 7-0.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman José Salas came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Hilo pitcher Ed Schultz, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Mauna Loa on top, 3-2.

"We'll enjoy this ride as long as it lasts," said Vulcans manager Juan Flores.
