Hoops Lose Contest, 5-3
|
The Waimalu Nene defeated the Hilo Hoops, 5-3, in Hawaiian League action at Waimalu Grounds. Waimalu pitcher Jorge Santos had a standout performance. Waimalu reliever Koki Ageda got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Franklin Brooks was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Micheal McShane.
Julián Gil was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Waimalu. The 21-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off Franklin Brooks. It was his 1st walk of the season.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Santos.
The win gives the Nene a record of 2-1.
