Hilo Hoops starter Naruhiko Kogawa turned in an exceptional performance against the Waimalu Nene at Waimalu Grounds, resulting in a Hilo win, 4-2. The winner was Kogawa. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Nick Boyer. The win has Hilo at 1-1.

Hilo used the timely hitting of Kokushi Watanabe to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hoops on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Kogawa.
