Crowds lined up early in front of Waimalu Grounds, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2042 Surf and Snow Amalgamation season. On the mound was Manny Gómez for the visiting Hilo Hoops and Yamato Yamaguchi for the hometown Waimalu Nene. In a spirited contest, the Nene pulled out the win, defeating the Hoops by the score of 6-5. Especially impressive was Julián Gil. Yamato Yamaguchi picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 1-0. Micheal McShane locked down his 1st save.

Gil had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a first pitch curveball from Benjamin Bennarivo, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Nene a 6-5 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Gil.

"I had some good swings out there," said Gil.
