In a low-scoring game between the Kauai Monsters and the Shirakawa Halberds, pitcher Yasukazu Murata was the difference-maker. The Kauai left-hander was tough as nails in the 3-2 Monsters win. Alejandro Reyes nailed down the save. Kauai, now 2-0, is setting the league on fire so far.
Noah James had a big 2-run home run for the Monsters in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Kauai trailing 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Manuel Durango and swatted a home run to right. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Monsters ahead, 3-2.
"Every loss stings," said Shirakawa manager Enrique Ortíz. "This one is no exception."
