Explorers Defeat Winds, 5-3
|
The Whitehorse Explorers topped the Taku Winds, 5-3, in Alaskan League action at Whitehorse Ballpark. The game was highlighted by the performance of Whitehorse pitcher Matsu Fujita. Fujita, now 9-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. The win gives Whitehorse a season record of 57-50.
Kane Tindale had a big 2-run double for the Explorers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Whitehorse trailing 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Héctor Ramírez and swatted a double to center. It was his 24th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Explorers ahead, 3-2.
Whitehorse manager Larry Martin called it "a darn good win."
