Claymores Handed 5-1 Loss by Calzones of Laredo
The San Antonio Calzones of Laredo downed the Scottish Claymores, 5-1, at Elysian Fields. Stellar pitching by Marcos González had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 9th in the IL with a 8.5 K/9 rate, handcuffed his opponent all game. González got the win, improving to 6-5. He gave up 2 hits and walked 2 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. The Calzones of Laredo improved their record to 43-33 by beating Scottish.

The Claymores had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Calzones of Laredo going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old center fielder Steve Dinan came to the plate. Dinan hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch screwball from Scottish hurler René Padilla. It was Dinan's 6th double of the year.

"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Dinan.
