Sledge Dogs Need Extra Innings to Top Traders, 4-1
|
The Wasilla Sledge Dogs took Kenai pitcher Ramiro Suárez's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Metros Ballpark. The final score had Wasilla getting past the Traders, 4-1. Suárez went 5 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 7. Enrique Ayala earned the save for Wasilla, his 8th of the year. The Sledge Dogs lead the Alaskan League Oiler by 4 games.
Wasilla used the clutch hitting of Manuel Domínguez to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Sledge Dogs ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It was terrific getting this win," Domínguez said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
