The Fairbanks Grunts knocked off the Sitka Capitals, 5-2, in Alaskan League action at Capitals Park. Fairbanks pitcher and Kyoto, Japan, native Tsurayuki Hirayama had an outstanding performance. Hirayama yielded 2 runs over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-12. Hidemichi Kawamura wrapped it up, recording his 15th save.

The Capitals had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Grunts going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old second baseman Shigochiyo Jouda came to the plate. Jouda hit a 2-run home run on a 2-0 fastball from Sitka hurler Tae-mok Kim. It was Jouda's 13th home run of the year.

"I always go out there hoping to contribute," said Jouda.

Sitka has now lost 4 straight.
