The Ketchikan Salmon trumped the Kivalina Bowheads, 6-4, at Spectres Ballpark. Ketchikan first baseman Jeff Gaines was terrific. He went 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was Juan Rivera. His record now stands at 7-4. The right-hander went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits for the Salmon. Okitsugu Kouda picked up the save, his 21st.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ketchikan center fielder Koji Sato had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and no one out, Sato stroked a run-scoring single to right-center. It made the score 3-2, Ketchikan. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with a double.
"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Ketchikan skipper Ricardo Pérez. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
Ketchikan currently is in second place in the Alaskan League Fisher at 50-27.
