Barrow Offense Jammed Up by Prospectors
|
The Skagway Prospectors saddled the Barrow Arctic Blast with a loss at Prospector Park. The final score was 6-1. Takeji Meshizuka was 2 for 3, including 1 single and 1 home run. The Skagway first baseman scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Roberto López, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-3. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 7 and walking 0. With the victory, the Prospectors record stands at 33-41.
The Arctic Blast had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Prospectors going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old right fielder Paul Davis came to the plate. Davis hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 splitter from Barrow hurler Donald Bradley. It was Davis's 8th home run of the year.
"When the ball finds the sweet spot," said Meshizuka, "I can't complain."
