Bruce Hits Two Dingers, Sledge Dogs Win, 8-4
|
The 8-4 Wasilla win over Barrow was due in large part to Kelly Bruce. The Sledge Dogs second baseman went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Alfredo Flores got the win, improving to 7-4. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 5 and walking 5. Wasilla, at 30-33, holds down last place in the Alaskan League Oiler.
With Wasilla leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Bruce hit a fastball from Shane Posey for a grand slam home run. It was his 17th home run of the season and put the Sledge Dogs ahead, 5-0.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Bruce.
